Last night, the US Senate passed legislation banning TikTok from US Government devices. The idea behind it is to limit potential security risks, which is just one of many steps lawmakers have taken recently against the platform.
Tik-Tok did respond to and comment on the situation “Once again, Senator Hawley has moved forward with legislation to ban Tik-Tok on government devices, a proposal which does nothing to advance US National Security interests. We hope that rather than continuing down that road, he will urge the administration to move forward on an agreement that would actually address his concerns.”
This isn’t the first and won’t be the last for TikTok and the platform. In the previous two weeks, more states have said they would ban public employees from using the app on government devices. These days include Alabama, Maryland, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Utah, and Texas. Indiana has also announced two lawsuits against the platform accusing it of misleading age-appropriate content and related security.
